Delta To Acquire 100 Airbus A321neos

Delta To Acquire 100 Airbus A321neos. Delta Air Lines announced on Thursday that it ordered 100 Airbus planes with the option to buy 100 more, in a blow to Airbus' US rival Boeing. Delta said it was buying the A321neo aircraft to renew its narrow fuselage fleet. The planes have 197 seats.

"This is the right transaction at the right time for our customers, our employees and our shareholders," Delta CEO Ed Bastian said in a statement.

The order has an estimated value of USD 12.7 billion based on the price of the aircraft catalog, and deliveries will begin in 2020.

Airbus opened a manufacturing plant in Mobile, Alabama in 2015 to build single-aisle aircraft with a view to competing more aggressively in the US market.

Airbus, based in Toulouse, France, highlighted its growing connection with the United States in the announcement, saying that most of the new aircraft would be delivered from Mobile.

"This purchase increases our commitment to American aviation, a commitment that has never been so solid," said John Leahy, director of customer operations for Airbus Commercial Aircraft.

"Today, there is more US content on Airbus aircraft than in any other country, with more than 40 percent of our acquisitions related to aircraft from the United States."

The Airbus order comes amid a public dispute between Delta and US giant Boeing over a commercial dispute related to a plane order by Delta and the Canadian company Bombardier. Boeing has argued that those planes were undervalued due to illegal subsidies from the Canadian government to Bombardier.

Bombardier in October revealed a production alliance with Airbus that gave the European company a stake in the Bombardier C-Series program. Delta has said it will not pay the US rates requested by the US government. UU In response to Boeing's complaints.
