There are landing gear bay retracted open, the gear are laying down. Then they are ready to touch down. The Globemaster is one of the largest aircraft cargo of United States Air Force. It is bigger than C-130 Hercules but less bigger than C-5 Galaxy.

The first entry of operation service back in 1995 in the Air Force. Currently they have 222 C-17s among its fleet. Because of its ability, the jet has been pointed as special transport aircraft. Mostly flying on carrying logistics and supplies.
