Another NH90 Helicopter Finally Takes Off. On November 24, NH Industries made the inaugural flight of the second NH90 Sea Lion prototype developed for the German navy.

The milestone comes approximately one year after the initial test vehicle took off from the Donauwörth facilities of the NHI Airbus Helicopters consortium member.

Now there will be a phase of development tests focused on avionics and software, which will last several months.

Additional modifications to the aircraft will be carried out in 2018, says Airbus Helicopters, taking it to the delivery standard before conducting further qualification tests.

The initial serial production aircraft is now in final assembly, before the first delivery scheduled for the end of 2019. Germany has ordered 18 Sea Lions to replace the fleet of old warships of Westland Sea King 41s.
