United Airlines Farewell to Boeing 747-400

United Airlines Farewell to Boeing 747-400. For the last time, a United Airlines Boeing 747 will take off today with passengers, ending a 47-year relationship between the airline and the iconic jumbo jet commonly called "The Queen of the Skies."

The final flight is scheduled for an exit at 11 a.m. from San Francisco and at 2:45 p.m. arrival in Honolulu.

On board the flight, there will be a celebration of the first United 747 flight in 1970 with the same route and menu inspired by the 70s, entertainment and crew uniforms. The retro feeling "will help send the Queen of the Skies with true style," United said in a statement.

The 747 has generally been used for international flights. The last international flight of United Airlines for the 747 was on October 29, from Seoul, South Korea, to San Francisco.

Once the United 747 farewell flight lands today in Honolulu, Delta will be the only US airline to fly with jet passengers. The last Delta 747 flight is scheduled for later this year.

United received its first 747 in June of 1970, inaugurating the plane on the San Francisco-Honolulu route in July. In its heyday, the airline operated 56 of the jumbo jets, before the fleet was reduced to only 20 in early 2017.

Delta Air Lines plans to fly its last 747-400, inherited from Northwest Airlines when the two merged in 2009, from Seoul Incheon to Detroit on December 17. United, however, has the crown of the longest continuous 747 operations of any US passenger company. UU

The airline has replaced its 747 with the Boeing 777-300ER, with 10 double-width of its fleet and four more in 2018.
