Qatar Airways Responses on Bombardier CSeries Issue

Qatar Airways Responses on Bombardier CSeries Issue. Qatar Airways is not interested in revisiting the Bombardier CSeries once the program is transferred to Airbus this year.

The Doha operator had previously been linked to CSeries. Speaking at an event in Toulouse to celebrate the delivery of Qatar's first A350-1000, Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker said the airline had "no interest in the CSeries at the moment."

Airbus aims to acquire the CSeries program and integrate the Pratt & Whitney engine aircraft into its single aisle product line.

But Al Baker left open the possibility of acquiring the type through participation in an entity that could lease the aircraft to other carriers.

He emphasizes that Qatar did not move away from the CSeries on the design and capabilities of the aircraft.

"It was because of the lack of confidence in the product," he says. "We did not know when production would reach maturity." Qatar had also been a customer of the Airbus A319neo, a competitor of the CSeries, but converted all of its type orders into larger jets.
