AirAsia QZ8501 May Climb Too Fast and Stalled

21 January 2015. Regarding to the AirAsia A320-200 QZ8501 crashed, Ignasius Jonan, Indonesian Transportation Minister said that the aircraft climbed at above standard speed rate.

He said that AirAsia QZ8501 climbed at a speed 6,000 feet per minute, that number was nearly with jet fighter climbing speed rate before its crashed into the Karimata Strait near Java Sea.


He added, it is unlikely that a jet fighter would increases its flight level at a speed 6,000 feet per minute. The statement came during hearing session with House of Representatives Commission for Transportation matters.

The minister continued, the normal speed for climbing rate for commercial aircraft is around 1,000 to 2,000 feet per minute since aircraft is not designed to soar above standard.

The aircraft during last minutes climbed up to fast and went up even faster after then it stalled. This chronology was recorded by the radar.

Both Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (VCR) has found and on investigation by Indonesian authorize agency.

AirAsia QZ8501, flew from Surabaya - Singapore on 28 December 2014, using Airbus A320-200 and lost contact with Air Traffic Controller (ATC) right above Karimata Strait near Java Sea. There were no survivor found from total 162 passengers and crew on board.
