Italian Army To Upgrade AH-129D Mangusta Helicopter

23 January 2015. Italian Army to upgrade for its Agustawestland fleet, the attack helicopter in the next six years.

The Agustawestland AH-129D is an attack helicopter special designed by Agusta for Italian Army.

The main goals for upgrade effort are increasing speed, altitude, situational awareness and endurance. They also want to workload and handling burdens.

Army Aviation Commander of Italian Army, General Antonio Bettelli says there are two options had been considered, exploit and upgrade current fleet or buy another attack helicopter. The trusted source said that probably another attack helicopter is AW149 Series.

In the same time, General Bettelli declined the second options and considering the enhancements package for the chopper.

He added the upgrade effort will depends on money and he expected it will be in service in 2020 because we absolutely need this.

Italian Army to receive Textron Systems Shadow 200, a tactical UAV in this year. In the future the UAV will be integrated with Agustawestland AH-129D Mangusta to conduct and develop new concept the unmanned vehicles.
