Japan Receives MCH-101 Minesweeping Helicopter

Japan Self-Defence Force has received the first Kawasaki MCH-101 helicopter. The helicopter special-designed for airborne minesweeping mission.

The MCH 101 built from AgustaWestland-Kawasaki Heavy Industries join venture. The platform is similar with AgustaWestland AW101 helicopter.

The production line conducted at Kawasaki's facility in Gifu Factory, Japan.

Development efforts are well-performed by Kawasaki and AgustaWestland Team. While Kawasaki leads the development including design and integrating systems, AgustaWestland providing technical support.

The major modification applied to the carriage and deployment systems in order to ease the minesweeping mission. Not only technical support, AgustaWestland modified the flight control systems as well.

Northrop Grumman provides airborne mine countermeasurement by using AQS-24A airborne mine-hunting and advanced AES-1, the laser mine detection systems.

Currently, Japan Navy has same MCH-101 variant, but only for utility purpose. There are five remaining helicopter are in list order. Meanwhile, the Kawasaki MCH-101 in minesweeping configuration will be used by Japan Maritime Self Defence Force.
