United States Sells P-8 To Norway. The US Department of State has approved the possible sale of five Boeing P-8 Poseidons abroad. The sale goes to Norway to replace the Norwegian Lockheed P-3C Orion and Dassault Falcon 20.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has estimated the sale at USD 1.75 billion, according to the announcement. Norway has budgeted USD 1.5 billion to replace its old fleet of anti-submarine and e-war planes, the country's defense minister announced last month. Norway has scheduled delivery between 2021 and 2022.

The P-8 has shared platform with Boeing 737-800. It is built to be anti-surface warfare (ASUW), anti-submarine warfare (ASW), and electronic signals intelligence (ELINT) role.

The sale approved by Norway will also include the Raytheon APY-10 maritime patrol radar. The Northrop Grumman ALQ-240 electronic support measures and the AAR-54 missile alert system.

With these technologies, the Norwegian P-8 fleet will resemble the configuration of the US Navy. Rather than the Indian Navy's P-8I fleet. In addition to the basic equipment of the United States Navy. The aircraft also features a tail-mounted magnetic anomaly detection system and a Telephonics APS-143 maritime surveillance radar at the stern.

If Norway consumes the agreement, the Scandinavian country will become the fifth Boeing customer for the P-8 aircraft. They will joining the US, India, the United Kingdom and Australia.
