British Airways To Retire Boeing 747-400

British Airways To Retire Boeing 747-400. British Airways aims to withdraw its latest Boeing 747-400 in February 2024 under its latest strategic fleet plan.

The airline is still the largest 747-400 passenger operator with 36 aircraft are still in service. But he has undertaken a type replacement with long-distance twinjets: Boeing 777 and 787, plus Airbus A380 and A350.

CFO Steve Gunning, speaking at an IAG investor event on November 3, said that new generation aircraft were 30% more efficient than the 747.

He says the airline expects an annual fuel benefit of £ 150 million ($ 196 million) over the next five years. Half of the current fleet of 747 will retire in 2021 and Gunning says that the last 747-400 will leave the BA fleet in February 2024.

The Gunning data indicates that BA expects to maintain a fleet of 63 aircraft, Boeing 777 series in the period until 2022, while a fleet of A380, A350 and 787 in gradual expansion will reach 71 aircraft in the same year.
