American Airlines Opens Branch Office in Havana, Cuba. The American carrier officially announced the opening of an office in Havana, despite the uncertainty surrounding Cuba now that US President Donald Trump took over.

According to The Associated Press, American Airlines said its first flight to Cuba - the first commercial flight scheduled from the United States to Havana in more than 50 years - and the new office showed the carrier's commitment to do business with the island nation.

President Trump has criticized the work of former President Barack Obama with Cuba and said he would reevaluate the relationship between the two countries. Since the first American Airlines flight, several other airlines have started routes throughout Cuba.

"We can not speculate about (Trump's) next step, but I can assure you that we are advancing our machine," American Airlines Cuba manager Galo Beltran said in a statement. "You are a witness to the investment and how important Cuba is to American as an American entity doing business."

In addition, Beltran also announced that American Airlines is currently scheduling 13 daily flights from Miami and Charlotte to Cuban cities such as Havana, Camaguey, Cienfuegos, Holguin, Santa Clara and Varadero.

Since Cuba was opened to flights from the United States, a half-dozen airlines have received authorization from the government.
