LATAM Cuts Thousand of Jobs. LATAM will lay off some 1,200 employees based at the Brazilian airport and replace them with workers from a service company to reduce the costs that were revealed this week.

The airline confirmed that there would be layoffs but did not specify the exact number, it would not give an exact number.

A union representing employees said employee terminations would take effect next week.

LATAM reported: "The company has adopted measures so that the change has the least possible impact on the workers, even so, there will be a reduction" in the number of employees.

The affected employees work in the airports of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in the luggage departments and services of scale. LATAM has gone with Orbital to handle ground operations, including luggage starting next week.
